Saturday January 21 saw the end of the MCL basketball tournament. After defeating Hill City 59-53, the Monarchs went on to face Phillipsburg in the second round of play on Friday. With a 62-48 loss against the Panthers, the boys team went onto the third place consolation game against the Plainville Cardinals. After ending the first half, the Monarchs trailed the Cardinals 32-22. They would manage to cut the lead back to within six points at the end of the third quarter but eventually fell to Plainville 60-51 taking fourth place. The boys ended the tournament 7-6 on the season.

 

The Lady Monarchs played Smith Center first round of the MCL tournament on Monday and won 57-25 with running clock. During second round of play on Friday, the girls team won another swift victory against Hill City 59-35 and headed into the Championship game on Saturday. There they faced the Stockton Tigers and won another running clock game 59-35. Senior Megan Koenigsman led the Lady Monarchs in scoring with 17 points. Seniors Madyson Koerner and Deonna Wellbrock trailed with 15 and 12 points respectively. The girls team improved to 12-1 on the season won their 10th straight game in a row.
